Dirty bathrooms, overcomplicated arriving instructions, signs everywhere with what you can do and what you cannot. The staff was not very helpful either
This was perfect for me. A bed, hot shower, roof, electric, towel and washcloth, not much more, but it's all I needed. Great location, great price, caring host. I wouldn't change a thing!
What strange cosmic force is at work here that indicates Oakland House Cottages is a one star establishment?!? First of all, Oakland house, by its very name, is not an hotel, but cottages. Marvelously rustic, campy, fully furnished, scrupulously clean and comfortable cottages where one is looked after by a team of thoughtful, hard-working, attentive and intelligent folks who are never in your space but always available and more than willing to assist. The location is serene and beautiful. The oceanfront is quintessential Downeast Maine and (wait for it...) comes with a swimming beach that is so perfect it defies description. Spending time at Oakland House is akin to visiting a spa for your soul. One star? I think not.
I love this place. The location is perfect if you're looking to be by the water and away from the hustle and bustle. The staff is friendly and helpful and the communication from the owner before arrival was great. Cabins are just as described - clean comfortable and basic. Bring food with you when you arrive, though, because there's no place near by to "run out" and grab anything.
This place is a Lil bit of Heaven on Earth.
